How this works
- Add your file. Drop a CSV onto the page, or pick one.
- Choose the column and the separator. Pick what to split, and on what.
- Split it. Check the preview, then download.
What it cannot do
- Splitting on a rule cannot know a two-word surname from a first and last name; the preview exists so you can see where a rule went wrong before downloading.
Questions
- What can I split on?
- Any text: a space, a comma inside the value, a dash, a slash, or several characters. The preview shows the split before anything downloads.
- How many new columns will there be?
- As many as the longest value needs, named after the original with a number, unless you name them yourself. Shorter values leave the extra columns blank.
- Does it change the other columns?
- No. Splitting a column adds new columns and, unless you keep it, takes the original away; every other cell is carried through as the exact text in your file — leading zeros, long numbers and dates included. The parts themselves are pieces of the original value, cut at the separator and never retyped.
- Can it split names into first and last?
- On a space, yes — with the honest caveat that names do not split cleanly: a middle name, a two-word surname, or a title lands where a rule cannot know. The preview is where you check.
- Is my file uploaded anywhere?
- No. When you split one CSV column into several here, the work happens inside this page and the browser is told to block outbound connections, so there is no upload to intercept. Watch the Network tab of your developer tools while you split one CSV column into several: the only requests are for this site’s own code, and none carries your file.
Your file is processed in this page and never uploaded — the privacy page shows how to confirm that yourself.
